郊外について歌った曲としてすぐに頭に浮かぶのがディセンデンツの「Suburban home（郊外の家）」
開発計画によって建てられた郊外の画一的な住宅に住み、画一的（クローンのような）な生活を送る。そんな郊外の生活を強力に皮肉った歌。
※サバービアについては、こちらの方のブログがとても分かりやすく書いておられました。
ディセンデンツについては、また別の機会に書こうと思うけど、この時代(1980年代初期)のハードコアシーンから出てきたことが大きなポイント。
いわゆるメロコア(と称される）バンドの一つとして捉えてしまうと、本当の面白さを見過ごしてしまう。（ような気がする）

Adolescents - Kids of the Black Hole
ロサンゼルス郊外にあるオレンジ・カウンティ。この土地も多くのハードコアバンドを排出している。この街の代表的なバンドのひとつがアドレセンツ（Adolescents）。
彼らのファーストアルバム（1981）の「Kids of the Black Hole」は、郊外のホームレス・キッズについて歌っている。
ちなみに、曲名にある"ブラックホール"をずっと抽象的な意味（キッズ達の状態？）だと思い込んでいたけど、スティーヴン・ブラッシュ著の「アメリカン・ハードコア」を読んで、ブラック・ホールとは、同郷のバンド、ソーシャル・ディストーション（Social Distortion）のヴォーカル、マイク・ネスの住んでいた荒れ果てた家の名称だったことが分かった。そこは、キッズ達の溜まり場で1980年には閉鎖された。

近頃、10代～20代の頃、よく聞いてた80'sアメリカン・ハードコアを改めて検証するのが面白い。
今は、資料も充実しているし、当時知りえなかったことや曲の歌詞なんかも簡単にネットで探すことができる！（レコードに歌詞カードが入ってないことのほうが多かった）
初期80'sアメリカン・ハードコアのキーワードの一つは、サバービア（Suburbia）、郊外の街。崩壊した家庭や無関心な親たちに見捨てられた退屈な街の子供たちの反動・反抗が重要なファクターになっている。

Black Flag - Police Story
やはりブラック・フラッグのベストボーカルはデズ・カデナなのか
この雰囲気はヤバイ
ヘンリー・ロリンズのブラックフラッグ時代の自伝「GET IN THE BAN」にも初めてブラックフラッグを見た時の衝撃は、壮絶なまでに凄まじかったと書いてあるけど納得。
実際にブラックフラッグは、警察にマークされていてギグを妨害をされるのも日常茶飯事だった。
